Costambar is just west of Puerto Plata on the North Coast of the Dominican Republic. It’s name is derived from being the Coast (Costa) of Amber (Ambar), where much of the country’s Amber was mined. You will love being in Costambar, the “Pearl of the Amber Coast” Costambar is a little village in its own right with people from many countries around the world.

Costambar is not as crowded and is much more relaxed than the all inclusive resort areas, such as Playa Dorada, and is ideal for retiring, bringing up children or living the single life.

Families from many diverse nationalities, with small children, are frequently attracted to this quiet residential community with its long stretch of open, reef-protected beach line. Costambar is surrounded by calm, clear waters and has a long stretch of sand with few waves, making it perfect for children. Costambar hosts a variety of restaurants where joining tables with a neighbour or new-found friend or simply waving hello to someone you recognize from your day’s activities, is a frequent form of entertainment. Bars and gift shops line Costambar beach, where you can rent a chair for a few pesos and spend the day counting the waves and making sure they come in on time. Within the village of Costambar, there is also a 9-hole golf course, restaurants and bars as well as supermarkets that are well supplied and at competitive prices, in case you are eating in tonight.
